Northport Baroque

Concert # 1 July 09 (Sunday) Northport Performing Arts Center
soloists James Bekkering and Ken Larson

The trumpet can both bring down the Heavens and can also play with angelic lyricism. Our first concert features friends and colleagues, Jim Bekkering and Ken Larson on trumpets, performing a concerto by Baroque composer, Vivaldi, and “Song of Hope,” written for trumpeter Ryan Anthony who was tragically taken from us with cancer. Also, on the program are some opera favorites, the hilarious Barber of Seville by Rossini, and the mystical Overture to Nabucco by Verdi. Two big screen scores on the program are music from Ken Burns’ documentary, ‘Victory at Sea’ and the ever popular John Williams score to Indiana Jones.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Children in our community, ages 3 -6th grade completed, are invited to have an Out-Of-This-World Adventure when they come to  “STELLAR”  Vacation Bible School, hosted by Blaine Christian Church, Monday, August 7 - Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 6 - 8:10 pm each evening.
This event is designed to help children have the  BEST  week of the summer at no cost.  Pre-K and Kindergarten age children will enjoy activities designed especially for them in the“Pre-School Space Place”.
Registration starts Monday night at 5:40 pm at the church (additional registration  times are available each night a few minutes before 6 pm).  Blaine Christian Church is located at 7018 Putney Road (corner of Joyfield and Putney Roads), in Arcadia.
Based on the theme of “Shining Jesus’ Light”, during “STELLAR”  Vacation Bible School, children will go on a cosmic quest to see evidence that shows God is with us.
They will make new friends, explore the fun, science gizmos at the Imagination Station and KidVid Cinema, enjoy Stellar Bible Adventures and All-Star Games, learn some fun songs during Sing And Play Blast Off and Cosmic Closing, and enjoy Galactic Snacks.
Since everything is designed to be hands-on, it is recommended that children dress in play clothes.
During their four days of fun, children will learn about giving and helping others by donating non-perishable food items each evening to help Benzie Area Christian Neighbors (BACN), located in Benzonia, provide food for those in need in our county.  There will also be a change jar for children to give donations to BACN.
On Sunday, August 13th, at 10 am, the children will wrap up their Vacation Bible School experience by singing their songs and sharing what they learned during a combined worship service.  This is open to the public.
