Piece Work, An Exhibition of Contemporary Gee's Bend Quilts

The Oliver Art Center presents; Piece Work: An Exhibition of Contemporary Gee’s Bend Quilts, in its Fisher Room Gallery from February 14th – March 22nd in observation of Black History Month.  The unique handstitched quilts are from a collection on loan from area resident Patricia Reich, who inherited them from her mother Jan Dolland.

Quilts on display were created by celebrated makers; Mary Lee Bendolph, Ruth Kennedy, Lucy Mingo, Arlonzia Pettway, China Pettway, Loretta Pettway, and Stella Pettway. 

 

Admission to the Oliver Art Center is free - visit the OAC’s website at www.oliverart.org for more information or phone 231-352-4151. The Oliver Art Center is open to the public Tues.-Sat. 10:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

Men's Pasty Luncheon

The Men's Group at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort is having their annual winter pasty luncheon on Saturday February 15th from 11:30AM to 1:30PM. The church is located on 955 James Street. It's a great time to gather family and friends and enjoy a hearty pasty along with green beans, coleslaw, dessert,  a drink, and warm conversation. The cost is $15 for a complete meal or $10 for just a pasty. Take out is also available. Just sit back, relax, and let us do the serving! This is a community event and all proceeds will be shared with local nonprofits to include BSR and BACN.

She: Honoring Women in Art

She: Honoring Women in Art, an exhibition highlighting what it means to be a woman and an artist in today’s world will open at the Oliver Art Center on February 21, 2025.

The exhibit focuses on aspects of positivity, strength, resiliency and creativity and highlights the artists’ ingenuity and ability to build community, generate support, creatively problem-solve and create and sustain life and beauty.  

There will be an opening reception on Friday, February 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The exhibit continues through March 28th. Both the reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. An artist talk will take place on Friday, March 28th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

Michigan artists, Judy Jashinsky, Melissa Jones, Rebecca Mott and Shelly Taylor will be featured in the exhibit alongside work in all media curated through an open call for art. 

Oliver Art Center is located at 132 Coast Guard Rd. in Frankfort.

MARRIAGE DATE NIGHT - “THE GREAT ADVENTURE”

     Blaine Christian Church, 7018 Putney Rd (corner of Joyfield and Putney Rds), invites couples in our community to join us for an unforgettable evening designed to inspire and strengthen marriages.  “The Great Adventure” will be a fun evening together on Friday, February 21, 2025, 5:45 - 8:45 pm, at the church.

     During the evening, couples will enjoy a special dinner and dessert together, provided by the church.  Couples will also enjoy meeting and hearing Mike and Lee Nienhuis, from West Michigan, who will give practical wisdom through heartfelt stories.  Their message will help couples dream bigger, break free from the routine, and step into “The Great Adventure” that God desires for married couples.

     This is designed for those who are newly married or who are celebrating decades together.  Come ready to laugh, learn, and be encouraged!

     Cost is $30 per couple, payable by the deadline below, for the meal and the evening’s events.

     To reserve your spot and for directions, please call the church at 231/352-9148 by the deadline of Monday, February 17, 2025.  And, when you call, please let the church know if you need child care.  Parents are asked to provide a brown bag supper for their children.

CrossFit Dunes is proud to support the Big Fish Foundation Community Challenge. This is a CrossFit workout and public charity event, with all proceeds going to the Big Fish Foundation.

Challenge Details:
45-minute Partner OR Team AMRAP 
13 Sandbags over the shoulder
40 Calories bike or rower (your choice!)
7 rounds of Cindy (5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 15 air squats)

Join as a participant or spectator. ALL abilities are welcome; any CrossFit move can be modified to your ability. 

The Big Fish Foundation is a Veteran nonprofit organization founded by retired Marine Corps officer Brian Chontosh. Their mission is to empower Veterans to thrive in a life of ongoing service.
