Creative Kaleidoscope, Annual Juried Art Exhibition

Creative Kaleidoscope, the Oliver Art Center’s annual juried art exhibition, opens with a reception on Friday, September 13th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The show will close with an Artist Talk on Friday, October 18th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Both the reception Artist Talk are free and open to the public.

This show will highlight the exceptional work of talented regional artists in a range of media. Acceptance in the show is based on the selections of the jurors.  This year’s jurors are Liz Celeste, Curator of Education and Exhibits at the Dennos Museum and acclaimed Michigan artist Mark Mahaffey. Jurors also select winners of awards in several categories. Those prizes will be presented at the opening reception.

Join us Saturday, September 14th at 6:30 pm for the Betsie Bay Furniture Summer Sound Series concert with artist Jamie Drake!

Each show in Betsie Bay Furniture's Summer Sound Series is a fundraiser for projects near & dear to our hearts: our September performance will benefit the Frankfort Lighthouse Restoration Project in memory of our friend and neighbor Brent Bradley.

Plein Air Frankfort 2025

Plein Air Frankfort sparks up at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 21st at the Oliver Art Center on the shores of Betsie Bay. Participating artists will get into the creative flow, and battle for glory (and prize money). 

Pre-Registration is required. Artists will check in at the Oliver Art Center and are then free to capture the charm of Frankfort’s Victorian houses, the Lake Michigan beach, sailboats in the harbor or any subject within the city limits of Frankfort.

The finished paintings will be displayed at an exhibit, reception and live auction taking place from 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Beck Gallery of the Oliver Art Center. Work will be juried by area artist Peggy Hawley and cash prizes will be awarded. The reception is free and open to the public.

Adventures in Beekeeping!

“ADVENTURES IN BEEKEEPING”, presented by Rick Dimanin!
Come and learn about the ancient craft of beekeeping! We will explore hive types, (hives are where the bees live); protective gear; honey bee biology/behavior; what are honey, wax, and propolis & how are they made and used by the bees and humans. Rick will teach us about starting beekeeping and/or a small beekeeping business. Finally, are you made out for beekeeping, we'll look at that possibility, also. 
You will have a chance to win one of Rick's delicious bottles of honey! 
Rick will have an Observation Beehive with live bees and honeycomb for us to observe! Rick has been beekeeping for more than 10 years and has managed 30 and 40 colonies of honeybees in 5 different locations, each of which is called an "apiary”. Rick is on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Beekeeping Association; The Southeast Michigan Beekeepers Association and represents Michigan nationally as a delegate of the American Beekeeping Association and the Eastern Apicultural Society. Rick has completed Cornell University's Master Beekeeping Program in 2022 and often mentors local beekeepers.

    Blaine Christian Church wants to extend an open invitation to our entire area to come to the church on Wednesday, September 25th, at 7 pm to hear a live concert by Gospel Road Christian Country Recording Artist “Luke Yates”.


    Admission is free (however, a free-will offering will be received for Luke).  This is a non-denominational event.


    Luke is a devoted gospel artist with a mission to spread the word of God through his soulful music.  With a blend of traditional gospel and contemporary melodies, Luke's performances create an atmosphere of reverence and joy.  He travels across America, visiting small churches to share his uplifting message of love, hope, and redemption.  Through his music, Luke invites listeners to join him on a journey of faith and discovery, reminding us of the transformative power of song.


     Blaine Christian Church is located at 7018 Putney Road (corner of Joyfield and Putney Roads), in Arcadia.

ANNUAL WOMEN'S FALL RETREAT

ANNUAL  WOMEN'S  FALL  RETREAT

    Blaine Christian Church, 7018 Putney Road (corner of Joyfield and Putney Roads), invites all the women in our area to come to the church for our Annual Fall Women’s Retreat on Saturday, October 12, 2024.  The retreat begins at 8:45 am and will conclude at 1:30 pm after lunch is provided.  There is a small fee to cover the cost of the retreat and lunch.  Please mail payment to the church before the RSVP deadline mentioned below.

    The theme of the retreat is “GOSPEL CHAMPIONS”, presented by Lee Nienhuis (www.leenienhuis.com), a passionate Bible teacher whose love for the Lord and the scriptures is contagious.  She is a wife and mother from West Michigan, and has a dynamic vision for the next generation and a belief that God’s Word transforms lives today.

    Lee has been featured on Focus On The Family Radio and Magazine, Rebel Parenting, Proverbs 31 Ministries, Revive Our Hearts, and many others.

Frankfort Fall Festival

The annual Fall Festival festivities begin at 10 when the CARNIVAL opens!  Enjoy old-fashioned carnival rides, games and food down in the open space.  Carnival weekend hours are: Thursday 5-10pm, Friday 5-10pm and Saturday 10am - 10pm

The Fall Festival Parade, featuring locally built floats and the always popular Mutt March will begin at 11am. We are accepting participants for the Parade and Mutt March.  You can register on the Chamber website at www.frankfort-elberta.com  

Don't forget to grab your Fall Festival Souvenir T-Shirts, souvenir stickers and coozies at the Frankfort-Elberta Chamber of Commerce booth the day of the festival or at the Chamber office prior to the festival and/or after.  

Directly following the parade, a host of activities will take place in the Open Space Park.    

Mutt March Awards    

Live Music under the beer tent featuring Jim Hawley Band and Scottville Clown Band (11:30-4pm) will perform under the Big Tent, which also features domestic beer and wine and beer from Stormcloud, Wine, Mead from St. Ambrose and Cocktails from Iron Fish!    

GIANT pumpkins, squash and watermelon weigh-in.    

Kids 5-15 years of age can guess the weight of a giant pumpkin and have the opportunity to win a brand new BIKE!    

Food Available in Open Space by TC Taco    

Fantail Farms Wagon Rides noon - 2pm.

First Congregational Church will host their Cake Walk at 1pm    

Who doesn't love a Pie Eating Contest?! (Register at 1:00pm - contest begins at 1:30pm)    

Our Fall Festival would not be the same without the CRAZY Pumpkin Drop! 2:30pm near boat launch.    

A wide variety of activities will be available from 11:00 am - 3:30pm in the Open Space:

RETURNING THIS YEAR!  A Corn Hole Tournament  At the big tent!  And a Carnival with games and rides and food!

Fall Craft Fair    

Pumpkin Decorating, "Hillbilly Olimpiks"-the silly-themed obstacle course.    

Popular Kid's Games and Maze will be all set up in Open Space Park for all to enjoy.

2024 Cornhole Tournament

3rd Annual Frankfort Fall Festival Cornhole Tournament. The competition will take place within the fenced beer tent area with prelims starting at 12:00pm and the finals starting at 3pm. Registration is $20 per person, so get your friends together now and secure a spot. Cash awards for 1st & 2nd place teams.          

 

In addition to the tournament the Fall Festival has live music, food, beer tent, kids games and a Giant Pumpkin drop. Definitely something for everyone!
