4TH  ANNUAL  CELEBRATION  SUNDAY

God is at work at Blaine Christian Church.  We are “Building God’s Kingdom”, and we want you to come find out how He can work in your life, too.  Our entire Benzie and Manistee community is welcome to come to the church on Sunday, August 25, 2024 for our 4th Annual “CELEBRATION  SUNDAY”.

We will celebrate together when we gather outside at 10 am for Worship, and continue afterwards with a Pig Roast Meal, and some fun family activities.

We invite you to come join us for the first time, or reunite with others in our church family.  We welcome you to be encouraged at this FREE event and celebrate with us!

Blaine Christian Church is located at 7018 Putney Road (corner of Joyfield and Putney Roads), in Arcadia.

Free exhibit opening on August 30 and running through October 4th.

Viridian Strings at Oliver Art Center

Oliver Art Center’s 2024 Summer Music Season wraps up as it started, with a beautiful concert of chamber music performed by the acclaimed Viridian Strings. This highly anticipated performance, Masterworks Unveiled, will take place on Friday, August 30th at 7:00 pm in OAC’s Beck Gallery. The performance will feature thrilling string quintets by Mozart, Vaughn Williams and Brahms. Each piece is revered as among the finest works ever crafted by these masterful composers. As we gather from across the country with both new and familiar faces, the Viridian Strings promise an evening of music to remember.

Founded in 2018, Viridian Strings was established with a passion for chamber music performed against the beautiful backdrop of Northern Michigan. Comprised of alums from the renowned musical institutions who gather and perform throughout Northern Michigan for the summer, Viridian Strings are known for providing high quality chamber music performances across the region.

Creative Kaleidoscope, Annual Juried Art Exhibition

Creative Kaleidoscope, the Oliver Art Center’s annual juried art exhibition, opens with a reception on Friday, September 13th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The show will close with an Artist Talk on Friday, October 18th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Both the reception Artist Talk are free and open to the public.

This show will highlight the exceptional work of talented regional artists in a range of media. Acceptance in the show is based on the selections of the jurors.  This year’s jurors are Liz Celeste, Curator of Education and Exhibits at the Dennos Museum and acclaimed Michigan artist Mark Mahaffey. Jurors also select winners of awards in several categories. Those prizes will be presented at the opening reception.

Each show in Betsie Bay Furniture's Summer Sound Series is a fundraiser for projects near & dear to our hearts: our September performance will benefit the Frankfort Lighthouse Restoration Project in memory of our friend and neighbor Brent Bradley.

Plein Air Frankfort 2025

Plein Air Frankfort sparks up at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 21st at the Oliver Art Center on the shores of Betsie Bay. Participating artists will get into the creative flow, and battle for glory (and prize money). 

Pre-Registration is required. Artists will check in at the Oliver Art Center and are then free to capture the charm of Frankfort’s Victorian houses, the Lake Michigan beach, sailboats in the harbor or any subject within the city limits of Frankfort.

The finished paintings will be displayed at an exhibit, reception and live auction taking place from 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Beck Gallery of the Oliver Art Center. Work will be juried by area artist Peggy Hawley and cash prizes will be awarded. The reception is free and open to the public.

Adventures in Beekeeping!

“ADVENTURES IN BEEKEEPING”, presented by Rick Dimanin!
Come and learn about the ancient craft of beekeeping! We will explore hive types, (hives are where the bees live); protective gear; honey bee biology/behavior; what are honey, wax, and propolis & how are they made and used by the bees and humans. Rick will teach us about starting beekeeping and/or a small beekeeping business. Finally, are you made out for beekeeping, we'll look at that possibility, also. 
You will have a chance to win one of Rick's delicious bottles of honey! 
Rick will have an Observation Beehive with live bees and honeycomb for us to observe! Rick has been beekeeping for more than 10 years and has managed 30 and 40 colonies of honeybees in 5 different locations, each of which is called an "apiary”. Rick is on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Beekeeping Association; The Southeast Michigan Beekeepers Association and represents Michigan nationally as a delegate of the American Beekeeping Association and the Eastern Apicultural Society. Rick has completed Cornell University's Master Beekeeping Program in 2022 and often mentors local beekeepers.
